Squash on TSN Saturday, March 22, 10am PST
Set your TIVO: TSN is presenting the all-Egyptian finals of the 2008 PACE Classic which saw world #1 Amir Shabana face off against world #2 Ramy Ahsour. We won't tell you who won (in case you're waiting until Saturday to find out) but TSN is promising one hour of squash and the match only lasted 38 minutes. Maybe we'll get to see the WHOLE match instead of the typical programming that has you scratching your head and wondering where entire games disappeared to.

PCO's a wrap

Congrats to Melanie Jans and Thomas Brinkman on their Open titles and to VRC for a great "Mostly Triple Knock-out" tournament. It's nice to get more than a couple of "guaranteed" matches for our hard-earned cash. (Can clubs stop "guaranteeing" entrants two matches already like that's something extra special? Jeez.)

We were promised some court shots and we'll post them when we get them.

Roadtrip! Sweat Fest in Summerland!

The first annual "Sweat Fest" is coming next month to the Lakeshore Racquets Club in Summerland! We were there last year and it was a great time camping right on the lake with the club literally steps from the shore.

Here's the message from the organizers:
Dear All,

Welcome to the 1st annual Summerland Sweat Fest (bring a towel:), formerly the "Winter in July", sponsored by Robert Pacey and S.C.R.U. Squash (www.scrusquash.com).

This year the tournament will be held at the Lakeshore Racquets Club, in Summerland, on Friday July 4th, Saturday the 5th and ending on Sunday July 6th. The tournament (entry $50) will retain most of the "Winter in July" tournament features such as BYO BBQ, camping and sizzling squash by the side of the lake.

ENTRY DEADLINE IS JUNE 29TH @ 5PM.

The tournament will most probably be a "Compass Draw" which has all players starting in one big draw together and then being directed into different draws from there. If we have a HUGE response, then we will change the format as appropriate.

All players, all levels, families are welcome, this is a fun tournament! There are 12 camping spots available on a first come, first signed up, first registered basis - Only $10 per tent.

If you would like to participate please either email us or fill out the form (downloadable below) and fax it to the number provided.

We look forward to seeing you at the tournament, please do not hesitate to email us for more information:
southokanagansquash@gmail.com

Regards,
The Summerland Sweat Fest Team

Vancouver Squash League goes online

Vancouver Squash League

The VSL finally has it's own website. If you play squash in Vancouver this is a site you need to check out. The site is still growing but they have already posted the official rules of the league, information about the VSL, FAQs (which we will add to during the year), a "protest" page (where protests, and the executive's decisions, will be published), links and contact information. Add this one to your favourites.

It's squash season again! Can you believe that another squash season is starting? I have to admit that I miss the Denman No Frills. That tourney always meant that it was time to start practicing seriously:) (Maybe this is the year that I learn to square to the wall, eh Mel?) The new 1st tournament of the season, The Earlybird, happens next week at VRC. See you there.

Speaking of tourneys, here's one you won't want to miss: The Bentall Athletic Center presents The Magellan Halloween Open. Oh, I know: "The courts are too narrow!" Meow. This is the ONLY free tournament on the Squash BC schedule. In lieu of an entry fee they suggest you make a donation to the 2020 Fund and 100% of your donation goes to this worthy fund! Big props to Andrew Lynn and the gang at Bentall for their support of the 2020 Fund.Come do your thing and don't forget to wear a costume on Saturday night!

Check out the poster we designed.

Squash Canada, you've got mail:

"Dear Squash Canada,
How are you?

It’s Robert and I am writing to you as fan of our game and as a past participant of the yearly celebration known as “The Canadian Squash Championships”.

I’m desperately waiting for information for the upcoming nationals. Where is it going to be held this year? I’ve heard rumours about Montreal (fantastique!) but the cynics are grumbling that you’ll probably hold it in Toronto again (yawn). I overheard someone say it could be Ottawa. That could be fun:) I check your website, www.squash.ca, almost every day for news but so far nothing and I’m becoming a bit impatient. . . "
